Passengers travelling from Kaduna to Abuja on Monday morning were left stranded after a passenger train failed to complete its journey following a collision with another train along the route.

The early morning train, which departed from Kaduna with dozens of passengers heading to the Federal Capital Territory, was forced to stop midway after the unexpected incident disrupted operations on the railway corridor.

According to initial reports, the train was moving toward Abuja when it collided with another train operating on the same track. The incident immediately brought rail movement along the route to a halt as railway officials worked to assess the situation and ensure passenger safety.

Passengers on board described moments of confusion after the sudden impact. Some said the train came to an abrupt stop, forcing passengers to remain inside the coaches while officials evaluated the situation. Others reported that announcements were made shortly after the collision, informing passengers that technical teams had been contacted to respond to the emergency.

Railway workers and security officials were later seen inspecting the trains involved in the collision while efforts were made to determine the extent of the damage and the cause of the incident.

Although the collision caused panic among passengers, there were no immediate reports of fatalities at the time of filing this report. Authorities were still working to confirm whether any passengers or railway staff sustained injuries during the incident.

The disruption also affected the schedule of other trains operating on the Kaduna–Abuja corridor, one of the busiest rail routes in Nigeria. Several passengers waiting to board later trains were advised to remain at the stations until further notice as railway authorities attempted to restore normal operations.

The Abuja Kaduna rail line has become a preferred transportation option for many Nigerians travelling between the two cities due to security concerns on the highway. The railway service offers a faster and generally safer alternative to road travel, attracting hundreds of commuters daily including civil servants, business travelers and students.

Following the collision, officials began coordinating efforts to clear the tracks and investigate what might have led to the crash. Technical experts are expected to examine both trains, review operational procedures and determine whether mechanical failure, human error or communication breakdown contributed to the incident.

Passengers affected by the disruption expressed frustration over the delay but also commended railway officials for taking steps to ensure safety before allowing any movement on the tracks.

One passenger who spoke to reporters said many travelers were anxious to reach Abuja early for work commitments but understood the need for safety checks after the collision.

Authorities have yet to release an official statement detailing the full circumstances surrounding the incident. However, railway management is expected to provide updates once investigations into the collision are completed.

Meanwhile, efforts are ongoing to restore train services on the Kaduna Abuja route and assist passengers whose journeys were interrupted by the unexpected crash.

Railway authorities have also advised travelers planning to use the route to monitor official announcements for updates regarding train schedules and service restoration.
