Religion Should Not Divide Us as Nigerians: Let Us Join Hands and Work Together

 By: SUNDAY UNEKWUOJO SAMSON

Nigeria is a nation blessed with diversity. We have different tribes, cultures, languages, and religions. These differences should be our strength, not our weakness. Unfortunately, religion has often been used as a tool to create division among Nigerians, leading to misunderstanding, discrimination, and conflict.

As citizens of one country, we must remember that before being Christians, Muslims, or followers of any other faith, we are Nigerians. Our common challenges do not discriminate based on religion. Poverty, unemployment, insecurity, poor healthcare, and inadequate education affect everyone. Therefore, we must unite and work together to build a better nation for all.

For too long, many Nigerians have placed all their hopes on political leaders. While leadership is important, the future of our country does not depend on leaders alone. Real change begins when ordinary citizens choose unity over division, cooperation over hatred, and progress over prejudice. We should stop allowing politicians and other individuals to use religion as a means of separating us for personal gain.

Across the country, there are countless examples of Christians and Muslims living peacefully together, helping one another, and building strong communities. These examples prove that peaceful coexistence is possible. When we focus on our shared values, love, respect, honesty, hard work, and compassion, we discover that we have more in common than what separates us.

Young people especially have a vital role to play. They must reject messages of hatred and embrace the spirit of national unity. Through education, dialogue, and mutual respect, we can break down barriers and create lasting friendships across religious lines.

Nigeria's greatness lies in its diversity. Let us not allow religion to divide us. Let us join hands, support one another, and work together toward a future where every Nigerian can thrive regardless of their faith. If we stand united, we can overcome our challenges and build the prosperous nation we all desire.

The time for division is over. The time for unity, cooperation, and national development is now.
